****You must have your athletic partipation physical completed, signed by a physicial and uploaded to SportsNet before starting any activity with boys basketball ***

Open Gyms

Open gym take place on Saturday mornings (9am-11am) and one weekday night (7pm-9pm).  Open gyms are always supervised by a member of our coaching staff.  Per CCS regulations, no formal coaching can take place during this time.  However, it is a great opportunity for players to get conditioning in and develop some chemistry with potential future teammates.

Skill Development

Skill development sessions are small group sessions (no more than 4 players) with 1 coach for a 1-hour session.  Per CCS regulations, a player can participate in two of these sessions once a week.  Skill development and techniques are honed during this time.  These sessions will happen on weekday evenings as the gym time is available.

We do most of our conditioning in September and October 2x a week on the track after school with our coaching staff.  We work on stamina, agility and quickness as well as strength during these 1-hour workouts.  The style of play at Sobrato demands that student-athletes be in excellent physical condition.

Tryouts will be held in the gym October 10/29 - Thursday 11/1.  Student-athletes will be evaluated by our coaching staff around the following criteria:

  • character (hard work, encourager, supporter of teammates and coaches)

  • skill/fundamentals (defense, shooting, ball-handling, footwork, rebounding)

  • basketball IQ (follows instructions, offensive and defensive concepts, sees the floor, agile learner)

  • athleticism (speed, strength, stamina)

  • communication (talks on defense, echoes calls, actively participates even from the sidelines)

* Fall sport athletes will try out for 2 days as their sport concludes.  Only two days of assessment are needed because we typically deal with only a handful of students.  More days will be added if further assessment is required.
